Here you go, although this is a US manual so the brake reservoir is on the wrong side unless you are in the US?

Well its always directly in front of the driver, its probably under a plastic cover to the back l/h/s of the engine compartment if looking from the front.

Can you take a picture of the underbonnet view and i'll see if I can point it out.

I understand if you own an E46 then you can get it booked in at a BMW dealership to get a free inspection.
A friend of mine has booked his car into a local BM garage to get it looked at next week, he has the E46 touring.
